Lexa has been honing her comedy, communication and science skills for the past 16 years as a comedian and science educator, and wants nothing more than for more people to know about cool science that can improve their lives! To further this, she leads comedy workshops so scientists can better connect with audiences, performs science based “infotainment” comedy about interesting science facts, and offers personalized coaching for scientists helping to improve their presence and confidence. Professional Development Workshop | 45-90 minutes | In-person or online available
Learn how to improve your science communication skills using jokes and humour from stand up comedian and science educator Lexa Graham! Lexa will guide your audience through the essentials of humour, explain how humour helps us remember, and provide short exercises that help generate professional jokes that can be told in lab meetings and conferences. This workshop is perfect for graduate students, researchers, and science communicators at any level, as participants will talk away an understanding of how to write professional humour and hopefully a few jokes for that next conference. Lexa has run this workshop at a number of science communication conferences, including for the Royal Canadian Institute of Science (Toronto, 2026), the Association of Science Communicators (Portland 2024, online 2025), and Science Writers and Communicators of Canada (Ottawa, 2023), as well as an online course.
